There comes a time in every ones life where the are going to require a wall built. Most men and some women are more than happy to tackle this task. A basic wall is only used to partition space and not used to support any structure or load.

Layout and mark the floor where you wall will be installed. Then mark in were the doors will be. Rough door openings are 2″ larger than the door size. A 32″ door would be framed in at 34″, this will allow enough room to place a pre-hung door and make it plumb.

Prior to any construction can begin, the home site is surveyed to establish the home’s basic footprint and to ensure the home is set back the appropriate distances from the property lines. The boundaries of the home are also staked out using surveyors stakes.

The next step is pouring the footings. Footings are poured concrete pathways that help to spread the weight of the home from the foundation walls to the surrounding soil. Footings are wider than the foundation walls they support, and form the perimeter of the home. Sometimes, additional footings are added inside the perimeter to support load-bearing interior walls.

If you’ve put together a few quilts, chances are at least a couple of them have been patchwork quilts. If you’ve got one or two under your belt and have yet to do a patchwork one, now is a wonderful time to start!

Hexagons

Get a square, add two more sides and you have got yourself a hexagon. This is at the very top of my list, just because I have so much fun building a hexagon patterned quilt.
